Many doctors prescribe warm water therapy for a variety of ailments, injuries, and pain. As a result, there are several types of tax incentives available when purchasing a hot tub as a result of a doctor's recommendation. For example, the state of Florida voids the state sales tax on spas prescribed by physicians. Also, some insurance companies offer some level of compensation for spas purchased for injuries and/or ailments that resulted from workers compensation claims because they believe that spas speed the healing process. However, these tax benefits differ from state to state. If you think that you may qualify for such benefits for any reason, we recommend investigating the possibility by contacting your state, doctor, insurance provider, accountant and/or legal counsel before purchasing a spa. Important Note: Be sure to check with your accountant to insure that you are eligible for the tax advantages of hot tub ownership. |

The Internal Revenue Service just may subsidize your purchase — if your doctor recommends frequent swims or soaks at home. You will need to install it expressly to help ease a debilitating condition such as arthritis, for yourself or a dependent. The IRS may want to know about the availability of adequate public facilities near your home If your project qualifies as a capital-improvement medical deduction, not only can you potentially write off the initial installation costs, but the ongoing maintenance costs as well, year after year. And this applies equally to renters, as to homeowners. |
